☞ SEE: Dreamgirls Arrives at the Apollo
We mentioned that Dreamgirls was coming to the Apollo a couple of months back and the New York Times just gave us a few more reasons to be excited about this production of the show that arrived in Harlem last week. Last year's American Idol runner-up, Syesha Mercado (pictured) was cast for the Deena role so that wasn't a major concern. When we saw the simple black cocktail dresses and flat hair that the girls wore in the original promo shots, our alarms went off a little. This was the show that glamorized the 60's and 70's. Did this production make it contemporary and boring? We found the Times backstage slideshow and the costumes are all there! The color, the glitz, the wigs, etc... this should be good! Our tickets are for this coming weekend so we are holding our breath for the big event. Has anyone seen it in previews yet? See more in the NY Times: LINK.
