☞ WALK: 456-460 West 152nd Street
The upper reaches of West Harlem, right before Washington Heights is also known as Carmansville. Once part of a wealthy landowners village, the area's setting are less rural these days but still have a bit of 19th century charm intact. Just a couple of buildings down from the Dance Studio of Harlem on West 152nd Street, between Amsterdam and St. Nicholas Avenue, one will find a set of charming Queen Anne style homes in a castle-like building with a mix of cupolas, dormers, and turrets all combined in one roof line. We did some research and records have it that No. 460, which is furthest to the right, was sold in 2008 for $775K (seems like a good deal since prices have not gone below this mark for a habitable building in recession times). There's not much else going on up in this northern sector but in our opinion, its one of the more charming secret streets of Harlem. Photo by Ulysses
