The expansive yellow storefront on 281 St. Nicholas Avenue that use to house Sow's Beauty Center has changed into a more mainstream color of yellow in the last weeks of 2009. The corner of West 124th Street, right across from the Harlem USA complex still was a bit rough around the edges and had not developed as quickly as the lower area of the adjacent FDB corridor in South Harlem. With the arrival of Subway, a somewhat healthier option makes its debut in the neighborhood. We are not complaining, but what we would really like to see in South Harlem is a Cosi sandwich shop in the mix to take it to the next level. On the plus side, at least it's not another Dunkin Donuts and the new awning is a bit more retro cool than what one usually gets at a typical Subway storefront. The closest train to this corner is the A,B,C,D train at 125th street. Top photo by Ulysses.
