☞ REMEMBER: Mount Morris Park South 1891
We did some research and found the above photo of the area called Mount Morris Park in 1891 before much of anything was going on. Looking north at 120th Street (center photo), one can see the watchtower on top of the hill of the park and a horse drawn carriage coming down Fifth Avenue to the left. There's a rock outcrop on the corner of what is 118th Street today and white picket fences all around (click on image to get better detail of the cobblestone streets). At the top shot, one can see the wood frame houses with their zinc roof porches and a birdhouse weathervane. The lower photo is the same view today with one of the more notable, newer structures in the nabe at the corner of 120th. The rock hill (which was called Snake Hill by the dutch) also has been gone for some time and more recently, a newer condo complex has sprouted up in the past six months or so. Have we reached the point when one no longer has to mention the fact that 5th on the Park is a total monstrosity?
ReplyDeleteBelieve the reference was to the smaller new buildings on the east side between 119th and 118th.
