☞ WALK: Hand Painted Grocery Signs
Most of the old small grocery shops uptown are either in poor condition or have been souped up with flashing electronic signage in the past decade so its refreshing to find something old-school that still has some charm to it. The small grocer on FDB/8th Avenue and 115th Street, although a bit rough around the edges, still has all of its hand painted signage in place. The bright yellow awning advertises coffee, heros and tropical products with a trio of painted fruit to get the message across. What's most interesting about this type of old storefront is the custom handwork that's involved. Each one is different and viewers can often times see brush strokes upon closer inspection. With all the retro inspired trends going on nowadays, its a wonder that some of the more arts oriented proprietors have not picked up on this one.

So much nicer than the seizure-inducing electronic signs.
