☞ ARCHITECTURE: West 121st Street Firehouse
At 307 West 121st Street, between FDB/8th Avenue and Manhattan Avenue, one can find another century old firehouse from Harlem's distant past. The engraving on the lower facade marks the building as Fire Patrol No. 5 but the original garage doorway is now covered in glass block. This station at some point was closed down and the building is apparently an apartment complex today. Nevertheless, with its yellow brick, limestone accents and terracotta pink trims, this former firestation is one of the prettier ones in Harlem. The closest subways to this location is the A,B,C,D at 125th Street. Photo by Ulysses
