New York magazine reports that downtown chef of the moment Ryan Skeen has abandoned the nether regions of Manhattan and will open his own new restaurant at 2072 FDB/8th Avenue (between 112th and 113th Street) this week. After stints at Irving Mill and Allen & Delancey, the notable chef decided to start his own restaurant which will be called 5 & Diamond and will focus on an American menu with Italian accents. The more interesting appetizers offered include a Cavendish quail salad, shrimp and grits hush puppies along with deviled egg on pork toast. Check it out here:

Ryan Skeen's 5 & Diamond today and Marcus Samuelsson's Red Rooster by late summer... wow! Frederick Douglass Boulevard in South Harlem is on the cusp of making an explosive statement for a true culinary renaissance movement.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the Red Rooster opening? I thought the location had not been announced.
ReplyDeleteEarly Fall based on past comments by Chef Samuelsson but the location is still a secret.
ReplyDeleteA New York Times article about chef Samuelson stated that it would be next to 125th street.
ReplyDeletePlease look up Samuelsson in our past post! We have a few guesses on where the spot should be.
ReplyDeleteNone of that stuff on the 5 and Diamond menu reads like anything you would want to eat in Harlem. He will get alot of people at the bar.
