☞ EAT: Kuti's Sandwich Shop Opens on 116th
The little sandwich shop called Kuti's that opened this weekend on 116th Street (right around the corner from Manhattan Avenue) reminds us of the Banh Mi trend that is going on downtown but the West African French version. The tight space is brand new on the interior but packs in rustic details and old world flavors. Paninis to try out include the French influenced escargot with garlic butter or the smoke trout with sprouts, tomatoes and shallots. Along with the expected seasoned beef burger, there is also a hand-chopped fresh grilled salmon patty or a slow cooked vegetarian option to try out. More familiar menu items such as a tuna nicoise sandwich on an onion ciabatta or the BLT with heirloom tomatoes will bring in the regulars but it is the more authentic ethnic menu that makes this new place a standout (along with average prices around $5.00). Kuti's is at 355 West 116th Street with the B,C at 116th Street as the nearest subway. Photo by Ulysses

Thanks for the info! I was wondering what this place was going to be. The beauty salon across the street was here briefly. Several years before then the space was a video game parlor called The Playhouse.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try this out! I've been hoping for a sandwich place :)
ReplyDeleteHope service is better than Ambassador..
ReplyDeleteInteresting concept but a very bad location for a sandwich shop. Should have opened up on 8th Avenue (Frederick Douglass Boulevard). Lord knows there are scores of empty storefronts there and more people walking by, plus subway and bus access. This quiet spot just off of Manhattan Avenue has almost no pedestrian flow.
