☞ DRINK: One Bar Stalled Until Late Spring 2010
A few readers have been wondering about the new One Bar that looked like it would have opened sometimes at the end of 2009 prior to a stop work order which was slapped on the storefront. Since October 2009, folks have been trying to figure out if this place is really going to happen and what was the hold up. Based on public records, the original work permit expired last year and this is what got the new proprietors into trouble with the buildings department. The owners are currently waiting for a court date to review the case and have to wait until May 13th of this year to get it all cleared up. We are guessing if all things work out, One Bar might be in business for the summer season. Read all about One Bar on 120th Street and Lenox in our past post: LINK. Photo by Ulysses

How can they get a liquor license with a church across the street and one right down the block from the building? We have not seen any postings requesting a liquor license (according to rules set by the city) and no one has canvassed the residents on 120th street asking how they would feel having a bar opened at all hours of the night. We have lived here for over 20 years and do not want noise and drunken bar customers roaming our street.
ReplyDeleteDid the caviar bar have a liquor license when it was open in that spot?
ReplyDeleteNative must have a liquor license and it’s right across the street from an elementary school. There used to be a liquor store on the corner of 119th and Lenox. Settepani served/will serve wine.
ReplyDeleteI don’t understand how the SLA works. But then who does?
Isn't it something about the establishment not being within 200 yards of a church? Probably as vague as it sounds. I think the odd bar or two would fit in quite nicely.
ReplyDeletehas to be reviewed by the community board in any event and the meetings must be posted around the neighbourhood, if memory serves.
ReplyDeleteReally depends on the nature and management of the bar, though, doesn't it? No one wants a bunch of louts outside smoking and yelling at 2.30 in the morning but yeah, a pub/neighbourhood place would be nice.
OK, Here's the the real facts....
ReplyDeleteI spoke to the owner of that building a few weeks ago and mentioned
to me that he's in a legal battle with the defunct bar onwers
who have not paid rent since last year.
As for a liquor license.... That corner is zoned for one due to
the fact that it has a "side" entrance, it's a lope in the system!!
The building owner's debt collection with a previous business is a separate issue and would not affect a new business coming in.
ReplyDeleteI am desperate for a few places to open in the neighborhood. This looks like a lovely little spot for a wine bar. I pray that they open. I always head downtown because there is so little in terms of good bars/restaurants in this neighborhood. Lenox seems like the perfect thoroughfare for more places.
ReplyDelete67 orange street is a nice option on FDB. The bar at Mojo is very trendy also.
