☞ DWELL: A Closer Look at Tapestry

The rental office at the new Tapestry building recently opened but we could not find any photos available of the actual building except for the computer generated sketch. Taking the matter into our own hands, we walked over to far East Harlem on 124th Street and 2nd avenue to take a look a the new building. Overall, in our opinion, the outside is pretty striking even though it is on the larger scale. The mass of the building is spread out with the step-back upper levels and bay windows providing a nice break in the overall proportion of the structure. As a reader pointed out, the wrap-around retail space on the street level will be one of the key sellers to this building if the right retailer comes in. Otherwise, this stretch of 2nd Avenue is really still up-and-coming, so renters will have travel a bit for most amenities. On the plus side, the building is LEED certified as a green building which might gain some points with potential residents. Read more about it in our past post: LINK. Photos by Ulysses

  2. At least it's not one big square brick block with one step-back level. How uninspired can one get when designing that way!

  3. Great addition to East Harlem! Not a single new affordable housing project should be buildt in this area though! There are way to many already! Focus on drawing a more diverse group of people to the area! This will help both the low income families living in the existing projects as well as give the area a much needed makeover!
