☞ REMEMBER: 129th and Broadway circa 1934
Manhattanville's past half century mostly consisted of the manufacturing facilities west of Broadway and large housing projects on east side of the elevated tracks. We found this old photo from 1934 showing some of the housing stock on the east side of 129th and Broadway before the wrecking ball came along sometimes in the 1960's. Taller buildings and tenements would line the side facing the elevated 1 train track and smaller wood frame houses dotted the neighborhood going in further east. The wood picket fences and porches were nice added touch to these lost residential homes. The lower photo is how this corner looks today. Archival photo courtesy NYPL.
