FREE EVENT: Thursday, April 22, from 6:30 pm - 8:00 PM at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center. Celebrate Central Park's trees on the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day at the Harlem Meer Social Hour. Ever marvel at the number and diversity of trees that make a home for themselves in the heart of Manhattan? Wonder what makes such a thriving urban oasis possible? Central Park provides habitat for over 24,000 trees, and 152 different species, including the largest contiguous stand of American Elms left in the country. Maintaining this many trees over the Park's 152-year history doesn't happen naturally; it takes careful planning, highly trained arborists, lots of public support, and -yes- a little help from mother nature. In the Central Park Conservancy’s newest gallery exhibit, Under the Canopy: Caring for Central Park’s Trees, explore the lives of Central Park's trees through their natural history and the Conservancy's innovative tree care program.
This special Harlem Meer Social Hour will include an exhibit interpretation by Central Park Conservancy staff, refreshments, and plenty of time to enjoy the exhibit. No advance registration. For more information, call 212-860-1370. Get more information at the website: LINK. The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center is located on the northeast corner of Central Park at 110th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues. The nearest subway is the 2,3 at 110th Street. Photo by Ulysses.
