☞ INTRODUCING: Harlem's Meat Shop Opens

The Harlem's Meat shop on the St. Nicholas Avenue side of the Harlem USA building on 124th Street has officially opened as of yesterday. We took a quick walk around in the interior yesterday and can give a thumbs-up as another great market in the neighborhood worth checking out. The butcher counter runs the entire length of the left side of the interior space, and this store probably has the largest offering of specialty cuts to be found uptown. There's a lot of the basics to be found, but also expect to see more curious offerings such as whole ox tails and pigs' feet on display, ready to be freshly prepared to order. This is of course not a place for vegetarians, but the hardcore cooks will really appreciate it. The interior is modern and a little clinical, but that kind of sanitary atmosphere is probably best for a butcher. The closest subway to this new specialty shop is the A,B,C,D train on 125th Street. 1. Looks nice. Ox Tails and Pigs Feet aren't "curious offerings" for folks who grew up in the south or Harlem. :-)

  2. I agree with SDG. Was just about a comment with a similar sentiment.

  3. "There's a lot of the basics to be found, but also expect to see more curious offerings such as whole ox tails and pigs' feet on display".

This is like going to a historic Jewish Neighborhood and characterizing the spotting of Matzah Balls for sale as not basic and a curious offering. Good grief, H Bespoke really shot themselves in the foot on the credibility meter with this one...

  4. Think the key word here is "whole". Walked in yesterday and these parts were not cut into small pieces like the American supermarkets like to do. Reminds me of going to European markets when you see animal heads hanging on display and that sort of thing. The pigs feet included most of the leg. Not typical to what you find at Pathmark.

  6. I agree with anonymous. The word "whole" stood out to me too, but ya know...some folks are all too ready and willing to say something negative.

Kudos to Harlem for adding a great new shop. I will be there today!

  7. I went to Harlem's Meat yesterday and I am sad to report that there was nothing organic in the store except a row of anemic looking chicken breasts. This a good place for all kinds of cuts if you aren't the finicky type - but I am.
