☞ REMEMBER: 126th and Madison Circa 1928
There's an open lot on the east side of Madison Avenue, just a half block north of 125th Street, that had us wondering what was there in a previous life. The impression of a mansard roof can be found on the side of the next brownstone building at this location and we eventually found the archival photo which shows the original wood frame house circa 1928. The lower floors of the building had signage set up for a jewelry store and that's really all the info we have on the lost structure. The exposed building impression (lower photo) looks relatively fresh but we don't quite remember it being torn down in recent years. Is there anyone out there who has a little history on this one? ReplyDeleteAnd what;s up with Manna’s?Bunch of them closed. . .
The shoe polish ad is still readable after all these years.
ReplyDeleteManna's moved across the street.
thanks, Sankofa.
ReplyDeleteUlysses,
ReplyDeleteI have no idea why my comment was removed. Although I was criticizing the locals of Harlem for letting the neighborhood deteriorate, my comment did have some merit to it. No problem.

Anon 7:22, I believe you specifically placed the blame on an ENTIRE race of people. Sanou's Mum is correct. You should own up to it if you are going to be that blatantly racist.
ReplyDeleteUm, 8:36. I didn't read the other comment so I was not directly referencing “owning” blatant racism. Or any racism. Rather I think everyone should sign their comments. It takes, what, an extra .5 seconds?
