☞ REMEMBER: East 125th and Fifth circa 1920
So there's that other big lot on East 125th Street, at the southeast corner of Fifth, and many might not have remembered what was there since it was demolished in 2008. The top photo shows the storefront circa 1920, which apparently was a dentist office, and had two stories of glass on the ground floor. The other mystery to be found on this section of 125th is the far southwest corner, which has a Miami-like stucco facade in pastel green and yellow. The top photo also shows this particular building with its original cornice and details. Archival photo courtesy of NYPL. Current photo by Ulysses

Beautiful B/W photograph, very nice use of perspective and light and no doubt taken with some very primitive equipment by todays standards.
ReplyDeletei remember when the ben and jerry's was there!!! anybody else?
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful B/W shot. Yesterday I saw a photo exhibit on the main floor @ FIT showing lots of wonderful pieces of old photographic equipment.
ReplyDeleteThe signage for the dental office is also wonderful.

ReplyDelete@hammermill-I think the Ben and Jerry's was there in the early 80's. Sadly, I don't think it lasted very long.
ReplyDelete@Vic Vega- it was around in the early 90's as well. remember going there as a young kid.
