☞ BESPOKE: The Stephen Burrows Collection
Stephen Burrows was someone that students at Parsons School of Design used to study about while learning the history of all the great Amercian designers. Mr. Burrows was part of the first group of Americans to show their collection at a groundbreaking Versailles show in 1973. His contemporaries who were Halston, Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta and Anne Klein were also on hand to show the world what the American look was about. Those other names have become very mainstream so it's good to see one of the most important African-American designer of our time get some recognition these days. The Stephen Burrows collaborative project with Target will debut this coming Sunday at the East Harlem location and will provide a lot fashion for less. Dresses shown are $34.99 and would usually cost several hundred for a designer name of his caliber. Check out some of the details and prices in the New Times today: LINK. I remember reading in a New York magazine article a couple of years ago that Mr. Burrows and a partner of his from the fashion industry were purchasing a townhouse on Edgecombe Ave to build a small boutique hotel. Does anyone have any idea of what happened to that idea?
