☞ REMEMBER: 427 West 126th Street Cottage
The top photo taken circa 1932 shows a two-story wood frame cottage that used to sit on the lot of number 427 West 126th Street, between Convent Avenue and Amsterdam. There used to be quite a few of these smaller houses in this eastern section of Manhattanville but those properties are now either open lots or have been replaced by larger housing projects. The cottages were part of a time when the area was an actual residential village (outside of the industrial section on the west side) but factories and larger apartment complexes would slowly surround the once pastoral settings.
