If you are uptown for the 4th and don't want to deal with the crowds downtown for the fireworks, the West Harlem Piers at 125th street (on the Hudson) is a more low key option. It's not the greatest view but it's better than maneuvering those crowded subways in midtown. Closest subway is the 1 train at 125th Street
For desserts at those summer barbecues, remember to drop by Lee Lee's Bakery (118th and FDB/8th Avenue) which recently reopened for business. Closest subways are the B,C at 116th.
Drop by Shrine on Saturday, between 6:00 PM-8:00 PM to listen to free live jazz by Majid Khaliq (2271 ACP/7th and 133rd Street). The nearest subways are the 2,3 or B,C trains at 135th Street. www.shrinenyc.com
