☞ SHOP: Harlem's Saturday Farmers' Markets
Saturday, July 10th, rain or shine. There are now two farmers' markets to look out for in Harlem! For those closer to West 110th Street and Manhattan Avenue, there's the Morningside Farmers' Market which will run from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM. The closest train to this location is the B,C at 110th Street. Check out the list of other vendors and upcoming events on the Community Markets site: LINK. There will also be a Master Composter coming to the market to teach people how to compost in their homes using worm bins this Saturday! The event is running from 9:30am- 1:30pm.
Then there's the Mount Morris Park Historic District Farmers' Market which will have its debut also on Saturday, from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. The location is on the north side of Marcus Garvey Park at 124th Street and Fifth Avenue. The closest subways are the 2,3 at Lenox. So let's all make an effort at supporting this local grown movement and do some shopping this Saturday! Photos by Ulysses

Hey Ulysses - I believe Jackie Robinson Park also starts their Farmer's Market this weekend. It is located on west 145th street between Bradhurst and Edgecombe. From 9am to 2pm I think.
ReplyDeleteThat would be 3 out of the 4 Historic Harlem Parks with greenmarkets!
Just went 30 minutes ago - there is a booth that sells dried fruits & nuts, 2 veggie stands, 1 peach stand, and a guy that was selling tomatoes, I think??? Everyone was really nice, the produce looked amazing and fresh, but....there were like 10 people there, and that's including the people working. Hopefully it'll pick up???
ReplyDeleteWent by about 3.10 ish. Two stalls had already broken down. Peach guy still had a mountain of peaches. But no prices posted, at least that I saw. Dried fruit and nut stall busy, the remaining veg stall had rather manky looking produce. Reminds me of friends who went on to build a thriving organic business but who, years and years ago, would go to Covent Garden and buy the most shrivelled looking produce they could find and then pass it off as organic.
ReplyDeleteRespectable amount of people there.
I bought excellent striped bass at the farmers' market at Morningside Park - I highly recommend it!
ReplyDeleteDropped by the one on 124th around 11:00am and there was a fairly decent crowd. Not bad for the first week. Excellent prices, great veg. Made myself a good lunch. Spread the word. One obstacle as always with this sort of thing is making people aware.
ReplyDeleteThe fish is really fresh. Tried monk fish and it was delicious!
