☞ EAT: Doug E.'s Chicken and Waffles Update

A reader mentioned last week that they saw some activity at the long delayed Doug E.'s Chicken and Waffles at 132nd Street and ACP/7th Avenue and we walked by to see if there was any activity to the celebrity eatery. The shutters were partially opened as can be seen in the top photo and a couple of workers were active on the inside. In comparison to recently closed wing shops down on lower FDB/8th Avenue (Just Wingin' It and Atomic Wings), Doug E. Fresh has name recognition and an undeveloped area of Central Harlem to give the new business a push when it does open. For longevity, the food will eventually be what keeps bringing folks in so were are hoping for a great spin on this Harlem original southern fare. Anyone have tips on when to expect an opening? 1. I did not know that those other wing shops closed -disappointing. Ordered delivery once from atomic wings and it took nearly. 2 Hours. So not that disappointing. Never got around to Just winging it. What about Harlem wing and waffle. Any news on them? I remember seeing a renovation sign a few months ago.

  2. Dougie's been at this along time. He must have some really deep pockets or investors with deep pockets and an infinite amount of patience 'cause this project has been in the works for years.

In reference to "Just Wingin' It" It was only a matter of time before it closed, yet AGAIN. The service was awful, the reception of the big dude behind the counter was even worse and the product just didn't do it for me. I wrote Walter a letter once telling him about my bad experience and he never responded. Its a shame 'cause he was on the Discovery Channel back in the Spring and got a nice make-over. But yeah, he really didn't know what he was doing. Walter if you're reading this--stick to fire fighting and serve up the wings on the night when its your turn to cook at the fire house.
