☞ READ: East Harlem's Last Italian Townhouse

The New York Times had an interesting article on performance artist LuLu LoLo and her husband who preside in the East Harlem townhouse that they raised their kids in. Bought for $15,000 almost 4 decades ago, Mrs. LoLo (born Lois Pascale) is third generation from a line of Italian immigrants that grew up in the neighborhood when it was the largest Italian community in the city. As noted in the article, the block on East 116th Street was run down with crime and heroin was rampant in the days they bought their home but the family endured. In later years, the couple's abode has been filled with all sorts of memorabilia and the townhouse has now become a sort of museum of East Harlem's forgotten past.   2. I know LuLu - she is a passionate advocate for the preservation of East Harlem and all of its long, rich history! I'm so glad they featured her. :)
