☞ REMEMBER: 723-727 St. Nicholas Circa 1885

We recently found an old architectural sketch from 1885 that shows what houses actually existed on the corner of West 146th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue back in the 19th Century. The area was still known as Harlem Lane back then and was basically a country road that the wealthy raced their carriages on: LINK. Out of the three lots at 723-727 St. Nicholas Avenue, the corner house was the largest but all would eventually be demolished by 1906 as per DOB records. The lower photo shows the elevator apartment building that replaced the townhouses in the early 20th century and one can see that the neighboring building on the far north side still exist today. See our past posts on this corner of Hamilton Heights for more photos: LINK.
