☞ REVIVE: Morningside District Falls Short
DNAinfo has the update on Monday night's preliminary meeting with the Landmarks Commission on the proposed Morningside Heights Historic District and many found that the grandest structures uptown have somehow been overlooked. St. John the Divine and Riverside Church were surprisingly not considered even though they are probably the most prominent buildings in the neighborhoods above 110th Street on the west side. The article also notes that the commission caused a bit of controversy since they decided to only contact Columbia University on the matter and not West Harlem's Community Board 9 and the politicians that have been trying to make this happen since 1996: LINK. As we mentioned previously, this was the first of many meetings for the designation and landmarks is now considering to extend the borders based on the feedback they received.
