Saturday, July 31st, all day: We are alway reminding folks to head out to the farmers markets on the weekend. So make sure to check Harlem's local markets out and make a few purchases. There are some great vendors at the Mount Morris Park Historic District market at 124th Street and 5th Avenue. For those who want first pick of the produce and especially the flowers, head out early. The Morningside Farmer's Market is closer to FDB and folks further west can get an amazing selection of seasonal offerings along with amazing fresh local caught fish at this location on 110th Street (corner Manhattan Avenue). For those further uptown, don't forget the 145th Street Farmers Market at Jackie Robinson Park's south side.
Saturday, September 18th, 11:00 AM - 8:30 PM at El Museo del Barrio. La Gran Manzana (The Big Apple) event celebrates the El Museo del Barrios new exhibit called Nueva York. Enjoy a day of music and performances as part of the admission cost of $9 for adults and $5 for students. El Museo is at 1230 Fifth Avenue and 104th Street. Saturday and Sunday, September 18th-19th, From 11:00 AM. Harlem Pop, an art, fashion and cultural salon series, will debut every weekend until the end of November at the the empty retail spaces on 5th Avenue and 126th Street. Start out with a free light brunch provided at 11:00 AM Saturday morning and then free Yoga classes later in the afternoon. Sunday will have an art show opening at 2:00 PM. Sunday, September 19th, 1:00 PM. The African American Day parade started back in 1969 and has been going strong for over four decades. Route starts at 111th Street ACP/7th Avenue to 142nd Street. Check out the official site for more details: LINK
The African American Day parade was brilliant! Saw quite a few people out there, but would love to see more locals out and about watching it. A great event.
