☞ READ: East Harlem Cultural Center in Dispute
Recent articles have been reporting on the iconic Julia de Burgos Latino Cultural Center at Lexington and 105th Street which has had some recent controversy on leasing out the space to other community groups. The 40-year-old Taller Boricua arts organization has been renting out the former PS 72 building since 1992 and the Economic Development Corporation wants to also lease out the building to other local groups. One Taller Boricua founder is concerned with displacement and gentrification while government officials claim that under utilized space such as the theater could be shared.
