☞ DWELL: 60 West 124th Street Condominiums
There's not much info out there for the brownstone condo conversion at 60 West 124th Street but a reader wanted to know what was going on with this development. One unit in the 5-story building has been listed on Streeteasy for the past year and recently had a whopping $111,000 price reduction: LINK. The 1,000 square foot, 1-bedroom condo has some moderate looking contemporary finishes that are starting to look dated already but the location is a half block from Marcus Garvey Park and the boutiques on Lenox Avenue in the Mount Morris Park Historic District. There's also an elevator in this brownstone which is quite rare and the express trains are only 1 block away. At the current asking of $489K and low common charge of $300 per month, this one might be moving pretty soon. Also, a little furniture staging probably would help things along since the interior shots are pretty clinical look.

they put in an elevator but couldn't be bothered to put on a cornice?
ReplyDeleteAgreed, the cornice is an inexpensive and very effective addition to the façade, disappointing they left it out. Also agreed, a little staging would go a long way, hope the realtor reads this. Otherwise, great location.
ReplyDeletewait a sec—this is smack dab in the middle of a landmarked zone. . . how the hell did they manage to sneak on another storey?
ReplyDeleteSanou's mom, is it only landmarked zones that are protected by these height requirements or is there a rule of thumb on how tall a building can get in a residential block?
ReplyDeleteNot all that familiar with zoning regs which vary but on a landmarked block you technically cannot change the facade.
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify, these brownstones are in the proposed historic district extension. If you look at the neighborhood map tab at the top of the blog, you will find the Mount Morris Park Historic District map which has the landmark areas in GREY. It looks like only the corner building at Mount Morris Park West and 124th is landmarked but not these smaller brownstones.
ReplyDeleteOh' it's between Lenox Nd 7th? That explains it. Anyone know what's going on with the proposed new, enlarged district?
