☞ EAT: Where to go for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving tends to be one of those stay-in-the-city Holidays for many New Yorkers and so what's open on the November 25th in Harlem?  First of all, Sylvia's at 328 Lenox Avenue is famous for their Turkey Day, pocket-friendly meal with the fixings for under $25 per person (price may vary this year). Call in advance for parties of 5 or more: 212-996-0660.

For more formal fare, Settepani at 196 Lenox and 120th Street is now also taking reservations for the big day: LINK.  A prix fix menu will include a choice of  Butternut Squash or Roasted Corn Soup,  followed by organic free range turkey with stuffing and a choice two of vegetables -- with selection of desserts and a glass of wine for $40.00 per person. Entree substitutions available. www.Settepani.com

Does anyone else have any other suggestions that will be open?

  1. I noticed Settepani proudly displays their NYC restaurant cleanliness grading front and center in their window, "A" grade (which I appreciate). However I've not noticed any other Harlem restaurants displaying their grading, what's up with that? Are these gradings released in a staggered schedule? I thought there was a law where restaurants have to show their grading in the window or somewhere clear in front of the establishment, no?

  2. Harlem has some great year round soul food which really comes into it’s own on thanksgiving day. For one day each year these dishes appear on dinner plates across America, like macaroni cheese, collard greens, candy yams etc making us a nation of soul foodies this Thursday.

  3. Thanksgiving is a day many Harlem churches open their doors to feed the hungry with a traditional thanksgiving dinner. Last year saw a decline in the lines at these food kitchens as some restaurants offered free food, giving the needy more choices and many opted for the restaurants rather than the churches. I wonder if any restaurants will offer free thanksgiving dinners this year?

  5. FYI: The Lexington Social (located on 1634 Lexington Avenue between 103rd St & 104 St) is kicking-off its charity campaign tonight Sat 11/27, to help fight hunger and provide nutritious meals to schoolchildren in Ethiopia. Please come by tonight, dine and drink for a good cause and 10% of your bill will be donated to charity. In honor of small business day help support a local community business in East Harlem, that in turn will give back to needy children in Ethiopia. If you can't make it out tonight, the Lexington Social will run the campaign through December 31st, 2010 in the spirit of the giving/holiday season.
