☞ INTRODUCING: Another Deli on Broadway
A reader mentioned yesterday that the row of stores by the shuttered Cafe Largo restaurant might finally be getting a new tenant. This section of Broadway in Hamilton Heights just north of 137th Street was really starting to turn around with the cozy Cafe Largo, the better bakery called Vinegar Hill and the Mexican takeout called Tres Pasos but that all came to an end in Spring 2009: LINK. There had previously been signs up stating that the establishments were closed temporarily but after almost 2 years, it seems that a more permanent situation is at hand. As for the new deli at the Tres Pasos space, we are not really sure if it's going to be all that great. Usually if a shop has to spell out that they are "gourmet" one often finds the opposite usually is the case. This section of Broadway also has a deli or bodega on every corner already. We still are holding out for Cafe Largo to make a comeback since it really was a great brunch and dinner place to have in West Harlem.

What a bummer. Another deli is the last thing we need.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it will be different from the typical "deli" (i.e. bodega) that currently exists on that stretch of Broadway. A good sandwich/salad place would be a welcome addition.
ReplyDeleteCor blimey. The font alone is enough to give you the shivers. What a shame those other places closed. Fact is, without enough foot traffic this is the unfortunate conclusion. Fed up with seeing Subways, Metro PCs, pharmacies, dry cleaners and laundromats. That corner opposite 5th on the Park has a laundromat opening. Joy of joys.
ReplyDeleteI loved loved loved Cafe Largo as a reasonable brunch/dinner place with a good vibe...and was really sad when it disappeared so mysteriously! I really hope something good takes its place...
