The corner of 116th Street and FDB/8th Avenue was a little quiet recently but the new home for the Harlem Tavern picked up the pace on construction yesterday. When walking by the old gas station in the afternoon, we noticed all the original fencing was covered by blue plywood and there were several construction guys on the site. Most notable was the facade work where all white bricks were being chipped away to reveal the red ones underneath. There's also a lot of new building materials on hand and some major infrastructure excavation on the north end of the soon to arrive outdoor eatery which will hopefully open by Spring 2011. Harlem Bespoke was the first to get the details on the South Harlem gas station-to-restaurant conversion with the help of some smart readers back in August and more details for the final design can be seen in the original post: LINK
Can't wait for this. It's going to be awesome, a really big change for that corner.
ReplyDeleteIt looked to me like they were putting a layer of new brick over the white brick. There are also some large pieces of equipment on the roof that I hope they will eventually hide.
