☞ SLEEP: Aloft Harlem Closed Again?

When walking by Aloft Harlem this past weekend at West 124th Street and FDB/8th Avenue, we noticed that the entrance was open for folks to walk through but the fences were apparently up again this afternoon.    There's still construction on the site but we did hear that a couple of folks had checked in last week.  Anyone know what's going on with all the new constuction?

  1. The website now has the opening date as December 27, 2010.

They must have failed a final building inspection or something.

  3. I passed by last night and it looked like a dozen or so rooms were occupied.

  4. Yeah, I was at the Magic Johnson Theater last night and some rooms were lit up as though occupied. But looking at the FDB entrance it was all fenced in and showed no signs of where one would go to access the hotel. So the question is; Did people really check-in a few days ago? I stood across the street and looked up at the lit windows to see if I could see people milling about, and no! No signs of life.

All the same its a lovely little building and I hope they'll have a good restaurant and bar that locals can patronise.

Also, I must confess, If we must have a hotel in Harlem, I like the idea of a boutique hostel as opposed to a large deal like the Hyatt. This would be great for out-of-town guests who come to visit and one's studio just won't accomodate them all. It saves having to go to mid-town. One can use Aloft as their own guest house.

I wish it had been around 2 years ago when I had to host 12 out-of-town relatives for the Holidays.

  5. Greg, funny you mention the lack of activity in the rooms. I thought the same thing! Lights were on, but nobody home ha.

Agree though, it is a lovely building. Best of luck to them.
