☞ SHOP: Raw Soul Closes Storefront
A Harlem Bespoke reader mentioned that the Vegan eatery on 145th Street just east of St. Nicholas Avenue just closed down recently and sent in lower photo. There's a few vegetarian places in Harlem but Raw Soul seemed to have been the only true 100 percent raw vegan restaurant. We've heard good things about the quality of the place so maybe the proprietors are moving along to a better location? Does anyone have any updates?

I can't say it's shocking that a raw food vegan restaurant didn't succeed in Harlem.
ReplyDeleteSeasoned Vegan, out of Lee Lee's Bakery on 118th, Wed-Sat 11-7, is 100% vegan but not raw. They are doing very, very well.

This is a significant loss. Lillian & Eddie did more than just serve up Raw food (which was very good btw). I credit this couple with assisting me in my movement toward a strictly vegan diet and life-style. They were instrumental in educating the community about the relationship b/t diet & disease (i.e., seminars on hypertension & diabetes hosted @ Harlem Hospital) and how these maladies can be managed and even cured with just the right amount of "know how."
ReplyDeleteIts amazing, Eddie & Lillian gave us a choice of something that prior to 2004 I didn't even know existed. Due to them, I will never go back to dairy and cooked sweet potato pie.
Also, the Raw chef classes were awesome & Eddie was a punctilious teacher. I took some of their classes over the years and attended their seminars and patronised their lovely little restaurant. I suppose perhaps they were a little ahead of their time? But then again they were here for 7 years and did a booming catering business @ Holiday time.
It has come to be amazing to me that in the digital age certain communities still lag behind in getting information that will empower them. I will truly miss Lillian & Eddie and wish them well in their new endeavours and hope they rest well and recreate well during their holiday starting next month. I and everyone else should look forward to their return on the internet and their products at some of the Vegan shops in the city.
I had no idea they were in trouble. . . I hope a chain doesn't move in :(
ReplyDeletea chain is better than nothing
ReplyDeleteAww, that's a shame, I only got a chance to eat there once. Great food and atmosphere.
