☞ REVIVE: Inside the Keenan Castle

Celebrity hat designer's Rod Keenan's townhouse which is dubbed "the Castle" was featured in this week's New York Magazine.  The Harlem-based designer bought the shell on West 122nd Street in 1998 (center photo) and spent one and a half years restoring it.  Most of the interior was covered in dry wall and embellished with just color and soft furnishing but the foyer gets the specialty treatment with Swarofski crystals radiating from a Home Depot chandelier. Check out the rest of the slide show of this work-home-showroom setup on the New York Magazine site: LINK. On a side note, we noticed one of the comments on the magazine site asked for the "after" photo of the facade and our photo at the top shows what it looks like today (the building on the right also turned out nicely).

  1. Yeah I pass this house frequently and always wondered about it. Its so narrow. Wish we could procur photo's from when it was built back in the day.

  2. Pass it every day and have always wondered what it looked like inside. Great job considering there wasn't a whole lot to work with. Fascinating building.

  8. I just came across this!
The house was built in 1885 by George Pelham according to Christopher Grey's book "streetscapes" There are more photos on NY Magazine's site, and Interior Design Magazine
