☞ INTRODUCING: The Second Floor at SoHa 118
A reader mentioned that the building that brought a Starbucks and Best Yet Market to Harlem seems to have some recent activity on the 2nd floor space (and the For Lease sign was removed) so we did a little research to see what was going on. It actually turns out the 12,625 square foot level above the ground retail at SoHa 118 on FDB/8th Avenue and 118th was reserved for community space which is quite common in the new developments. On the DOB site, work permits have been posted in the past fews months that have the City Seminary of New York listed as the tenant and we found this listing that states the same: LINK. It seems that the establishment was originally across the street and have yet to settle into their new space form what we can gather. Here's the organization website for those who want more details: www.CitySeminaryNY.org

Isn't the Starbucks on the corner of 125th St and Lenox Ave the 1st in all of Harlem?
ReplyDeleteD: If you want to quibble, it could also be pointed out that the Starbucks you reference was (at least until very recently, I believe) not a "real" Starbucks -- it was the only U.S. location operated under a franchise agreement, as opposed to being owned and operated by the corporation.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, I think Ulysses was simply pointing out that this is a new development on FDB that has already attracted two high-profile and successful commercial tenants.
Cool Blue Reason: keep it cool...you seem so upset and hostile.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean to "quibble", it was a simple question. What it is clear, is that Soha 118 is not the building that brought Starbucks to Harlem....I guess you just interpreted Ulysses' statement in a different way.
I'm neither upset nor hostile about this -- I just think the question / criticism you're offering here is rather shaky.
ReplyDeleteAll else aside, the post says the building "brought brought a Starbucks and Best Yet Market to Harlem" (emphasis added). Seems clear enough to me. Whether you count it as first or second, it's not an unreasonable way to frame the post.
Some evidence that the existence of the 125th & Lenox Starbucks (including as "first") is not news on HB:

Wow, two posts back-to-back...and research too! Lol! You clearly have too much time on your hands. I would also guess that you probably reside within 2 blocks of Best Yet....don't worry, property values won't drop just because the 1st Harlem Starbucks opened on Lenox Ave. and not FDB. It was a very simple question....not sure how you read it as criticism. I actually wasn't even sure if the Starbucks on 125th and Lenox Ave was the first in Harlem.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, your emphasis should have been on "Harlem". The way the statement was written it seems to imply that the building attracted the first Starbucks to Harlem....it should have specified FDB.
Hey D--I think you may have placed too much weight on the word 'quibble'. I didn't read CBB's post as argumentative. And we love his research.
ReplyDelete"brought a Starbucks" does not imply first, second or third Starbucks...or any other number....it just means that it "brought a Starbucks" to Harlem, which in fact it did do. Relax.
ReplyDeleteYou guys must all be neighbors! Lol! So silly...
