☞ READ: MTA to Test at African Burial Ground

The New York Post was first to report this past week that the MTA has committed to doing archeological  tests on the site of their bus depot at 126th and First Avenue: LINK.  East Harlem preservationists have taken action in the past year so that the former 17th century location of the Elmendorf Reformed Church and site of the city's other African American burial ground would not be further disturbed by new construction set for 2015.  It has been reported that evidence of the 1600's burial site have been found on the bus depot grounds as exploratory work for the MTA station's overhaul started in recent years. For more on the Harlem African burial grounds, read our past post on the history of Harlem's oldest church: LINK
