☞ REVIVE: The New St. Luke Baptist Church
A Harlem Bespoke reader mentioned that there was a rendering of the new St. Luke Baptist Church at the corner of 123rd Street and Morningside Avenue so we stopped over at No. 163 to take a look at what was soon to arrive. We noticed the side walk shed at the abandoned corner building over the weekend but the red brick main church structure further north was the place to go to see what will be planned for the site (click on lower image to enlarge). From the rendering, it appears that the two buildings will be combined into one large temple of worship. Seeing that St. Luke is not an especially huge congregation, it would seem that this organization has their act together to construct a new building with classical details. In our opinion, this one should fit in more contextually than a lot of the mid-century houses of worship that went up over the past few decades.

I remember going to that Church building in the late 40's 50's when it was called Southern Baptist Church before SB moved to 109th street and CPW.
