☞ SEE: The Carilloneur of Riverside Church

The above video accompanies the great Daily News article on 80-year-old Dyonisio Lind who happens to operate the bell tower of the countries tallest church: LINK.  Mr. Lind learned his trade working a smaller carillon at a church on Lenox Avenue as a boy and went to Belgium at one point to further hone his skills.  There's only two other carillons in the city and Riverside Church has the largest one with 74 bells altogether (including one that weighs 20 tons).  So next time you hear those bells on Sundays, think of Dyonisio working his craft at one of the world's highest church towers.

  1. St. Martin on Lenox has a carillon which unfortunately is played rarely. (or fortunately if you are like me and lived in a college dorm next to a carillon-equipped chapel).

I fret about St. Martin’s carillon, given the condition of the church. If you look up into the tower you can see the many bells.
