☞ WALK: What's Up with 46 West 120th?
Any stroll down Mount Morris Park West will have the viewer fascinated by the restored brownstones but one of the last ones to get anything done to it still stands at the corner of 120th Street. We've had the above photo of No. 46 West 120th on file for some time and finally got around to looking at the paperwork for this townhouse since it has been in limbo. It looks like work permits go as far back as 2005 to convert a former 8-unit SRO into a three family abode. The job permits call for an entire gut renovation of all floors and the most recent one was filed back in February of 2009. Not much has gone on in the past couple of years so one wonders why the owner just doesn't sell it if financing has dried up for a restoration. This part of the historic district is one of the most desirable areas and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar lives just a few houses down.

if you all get a chance walk around back on 119 and look through the vacant lot. One of these buildings has a new almost-all glass back. Can’t decide if I love it or hate it. Think I love it.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Maya Angelou have her home on this block also?
ReplyDeleteSome stuff says it is owned by http://www.lisc.org: LOCAL INITIATIVES SUPPORT CORPORATION
ReplyDeleteBut they don't seem to be doing anything with the building. Are they waiting for the market to improve to sell?
