☞ REMEMBER: Brownstones at St. Nicholas Park
The area by St. Nicholas park is pretty much intact except for a block around West 129th Street which apparently had a vast line of brownstones on site in the earlier days. A photo circa 1928 shows the brownstone row on the east side of the avenue which would have had amazing park views towards the west. As with most large-scale developments that have altered historic blocks in Harlem's past, the standard construction of public housing has been built on this particular corner and today stands in contrast amongst the surrounding blocks of prewar architecture.
