☞ REVIVE: The Central Harlem Reno Fireplaces
As the Wall Street Journal brownstone finishes in South Harlem, the Central Harlem townhouse renovations is just starting to pick up momentum. After peeling off some major 70's wood paneling from all of the walls (note glue residue in second photo), the next step was to try and save some of the original details. The most obvious pieces to store away were the fireplaces found on each floor of the former SRO. A local antique yard was impressed by the size and quality of one mantle and the manufacturing sticker found on the back would have made the piece worth more to serious collectors. Unlike the South Harlem townhouse renovations, most of the fireplaces will be integrated back into the new interior except for the single one that matched the previously mentioned wood paneling. The lower photo shows the faux-rock (basically cardboard) surfacing that probably covered up a missing or damage fireplace decades ago and this more modern detail will luckily be banished forever.

ReplyDeleteWhere is the local antique yard?
ReplyDeleteLook! It's one of those mantel things that I want ha. What was the deal with the wall st. couple then? They did away with all that stuff? Their place looks a bit odd with the old staircase but nothing else.
ReplyDeleteRJ it is probably the one on 125th between 1st and 2nd aves I cannot thing of the name right now but they tend to have some really cool pieces all be it at silly expensive prices.
ReplyDeleteDemolition Depot...and yes, outrageous prices.
ReplyDeleteDemolition depot, outrageous prices until you have something to sell them, then they offer pennies on the dollar.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't you think that owners are savvy enough these days not to sell for pennies?
ReplyDeleteDemolition Depot staggeringly expensive. ‘It this a misprint?’ expensive.
