After last week's high profile visit to Harlem last Tuesday there have been some reports that President Obama will return to New York City for Reverend Al Sharpton's National Action Network yearly gala this Wednesday. So does this mean another Harlem visit? The New York Daily News first reported that the midtown Sheraton event was definitely confirmed (LINK) via NAN spokeswoman Rachel Noerdlinger but a DNAinfo headline on the same day reported that this was a Harlem gathering: LINK. From reading both articles, it would seem that President Obama will be at the Sheraton but a meeting outside of midtown (or in Harlem) has not been entirely established.
Reverend Al Sharpton is a highly respected voice in the African-American community who has had political meetings at Sylvia's in Harlem but hails originally from Brooklyn. If the President were to meet in Harlem with the Mr. Sharpton then Sylvia's would probably be the most likely location. A previous New York Times article also points out that the community leader actually lives on the Upper West Side and has recently been trying to purchase a Harlem brownstone: LINK. With that said, a Presidential meeting with Reverend Al Sharpton could take place anywhere in greater New York City and not specifically within Harlem at this point.
