☞ REMEMBER: The Conservatory Garden c.1900

Spring Blossoms have been popping up all over the city and that reminded us to drop by the Consveratory Garden on the East Harlem side of Central Park.  The top photo from circa 1900 shows the formal garden's namesake conservatory that would be taken down by 1934 because the city could not maintain the structure financially.  This section by East 105th Street is now the only formal gardens in the entire park and a substantial one at that.  The last photo shows the section facing the main entrance which is densely lined with crabapple trees on either side (we had previously mistaken them as cherry trees).  Strangely enough, the leaves opened before the blooms have come out this year and the actual blossoms will probably open within the next week.  For those who can't wait, check out our post from last year: LINK.  Archival photo courtesy MCNY
