☞ SHOP: What's Up with 2215 ACP?
A Harlem Bespoke reader inquired about the newly restored storefront at the corner of West 131st Street and ACP/7th Avenue so we did a little research. Most might remember that No. 2215 used to house an old liquor store and bodega but construction on the corner has now revealed a brand new facade which unifies the two smaller commercial spaces. Permits show that this is an HPD building so it is a little odd that they would spend the resources themselves to fix up the old shop. Beyond that, there's nothing else stated about business owners so everything is still a mystery for this one. On a positive side note, this is a fine example of how some of the storefront renovations uptown have exposed the original fluted corner cast pillars and additionally incorporated them into the final design. Any tips out there?

I walk by this one daily and I'd love to know what's happening but I don't. But the whole stretch of the east side of ACP betw 130 and 131 could use a jolt of activity.
ReplyDeleteAdjacent to the property you're discussing is the defunct nightclub Zipcode, which has been shut for some time now (prior to that it was a prominent Harlem restaurant but the name now escapes me - Jimmy's Uptown?) This building is wide but only 2 stories high and tucked between two taller buildings so it strikes me as a nice potential development site.
Then next to that is a good-sized condo project that looks like it got pretty near to completion before being foreclosed on. It now sits vacant, though lobby lights are kept on.
Altogether those three properties have the potential to offer a nice shot in the arm to the neighborhood if they can be completed and designed right for the market. I sure hope something starts happening on them soon.
@Coopster: You are correct. Zipcode used to be Jimmy's Uptown.
ReplyDeleteI know that Jimmy's had a problem with attracting a rough crowd but I have no idea what the deal with Zipcode was(maybe they had the same issues?) at all.
Zipcode used to have problems like that. I didn't realize Jimmy's had had that problem - I thought it was more a problem of filling the tables - but then by the time I arrived in the neighborhood Jimmy's was already closed. But Zipcode had its share of police visits.
