☞ REMEMBER: Jule Pascin's Harlem circa 1914
Famous early 20th century painter Jules Pascin dodged the European draft and ended up in Harlem from about 1914 to 1920. The Bugarian who studied in Vienna would travel throughout the United States during this period of his life but apparently spent much of his time in Harlem for the jazz and blues culture. There does not seem to be a date credited to the above painting but one can see that Harlem was already experiencing the great demographic shift that would herald the Renaissance years.
