☞ ARCHITECTURE: The Awnings of Strivers Row

The distinct townhouses at Strivers Row's north side of 138th Street between ACP/7th and FDB/8th Avenue standout for many reason but not much has been written about some unique cast iron awnings found in many of the doorways. These metal and glass architectural elements are traditionally found above grand Beaux Arts hotels or theaters but are rarely seen in townhouses.  Most of the large cast awnings have disappeared and have not been replaced around Harlem so the Strivers Row block with the well appointed residential variations should be noted.  The landmark block is mostly intact with these historic facade fixtures but all of them are in various conditions and at least one has been replaced with a modern version.
