☞ INTRODUCING: Lenox Pioneer Market Opens

A tip sent to our inbox reported that Pioneer Supermarket at the Lenox Condos on the corner of 129th Street will be opening this Wednesday and it appears that has definitely happened. Signs and some major bunting decorated the storefront this morning and area residents definitely noticed.  A sneak peek after the jump.

Overall everything is clean, modern and brand new but there seems to be a slight western angle with some of the wood paneling at the stands and wild west signage over each aisle. Many shoppers had already arrived in the morning and locals shopping the offerings seemed to be very pleased with the selection along with the presentation of the new supermarket.  There is not as much of a specialty assortment to be found as compared to Fairway but this part of upper Lenox has not seen this scale of supermarket for some time, so it should be a popular destination.

  1. There aren't any supermarkets in Harlem, other than Fairway, that offer much of a specialty assortment. Just as FDB, before the new Best Yet, and the rest of Harlem for that matter - supermarkets of this caliber have not been available (excluding Fairway).

Things are looking up in Harlem! Spend your money locally whenever possible!

Has anybody noticed if they have organic produce and/or milk?

  3. My wife and I went today and we were impressed by the cleanliness, order, and selection! They have a lot of the traditional grocery items, a deli, a bakery, fresh produce section, etc... but not that much Organic fare. The people that worked there also seemed very friendly and helpful. It is great that there is an option in that specific area that is NOT Associated or C-Town!

  5. As my partner and entered the store we both proclaimed how nice it was. The woman behind us said she had been waiting for a supermarket like this. It was so big and clean. Ground chuck was 1.99 a pound. Eggs 79 cents. Organic anything is not in my budget so I did not look for organic milk or eggs. They did however have organic lobster stock along with a lot of other organic stocks. I only notice because, who has organic lobster stock? My Boyfriend and I walked around continually saying" this place is so nice". This is like the supermarkets in the rest of the country. I really hope it stays this clean. Plus they are open till midnight

  6. Watch out!! Pioneer has a myterious way of becoming another "Fine Fare" Harlem supermarket overnight. This is what happened to the one at 116th St. & Lenox Ave., at the Renaissance Cooperative on the corner. When the Renaisance Apartments opened a little more than a decade ago, we had a nice clean Pioneer store with a limited upscale food selection. However, mysteriously a few years later, the signage suddenly changed overnight...and the slow decline began.
