☞ REMEMBER: East 129th and Third circa 1941

A photo from 1941 shows what the bridge underpass area at Third and East 129th Street used to look like several decades ago before the block was deconstructed.  The El Trail apparently arrived all the way up to this block that appears to have had both residential and commercial buildings.  Most of the elevated tracks were removed during the 1940s so this must have been one of the last images of this part of the neighborhood.  Today, the area has a lot of open green space but is mainly dominated by a traffic ramp to a bridge.  Archival image courtesy NYPL
