☞ REVIVE: What's Up with 2 East 125th?

Another open lot on 125th Street (at Fifth Avenue) that has been sitting around a couple of years is still pretty much dormant. So what happened?  There used to be a 4-story prewar commercial building on the site that blended in with the brownstones on block just north of Marcus Garvey Park but that structure was demolished back in 2008 to make way for another building.  Based on the DOB permit history, several filings were put in place for a new 4-story commercial building to be constructed on the site but none of them were approved.  Since then, not much else has been happening to the lot and yet another mystery parcel awaits to be transformed. Maybe a renovation of the original building would have been a better choice here since nothing taller was being built up?

  1. this used to be the Boro Hotel - it was a really charming looking building but had obviously seen better days. Yet another situation where a rehab would have been a much better idea than demolishing it to build new - not to mention that it would have help to maintain some character in the neighborhood. I was heartbroken when it came down.
