☞ READ: City Opera Arriving at El Museo
A major opera production will be heading uptown by next year and sets the stage for a big change in the New York City arts scene. The Wall Street Journal reports that the New York City Opera will be leaving Lincoln Center for the 2011-2012 season and plans to set up a run of Orpheus at East Harlem's El Museo del Barrio's theater. The "bold" move is one of four productions that will introduce various operas to different parts of the city and apparently is quite controversial because of this fact. The East Harlem production of Telemann's Orpheus will premier in May of next year at El Teatro which is the theater at El Museo del Barrio.
