☞ REMEMBER: The 8th Ave El at 125th Street

The above photo from 1939 shows a different perspective of the famous 8th Avenue El train that used to run up today's FDB. Most views show the train tracks along the avenue but this perspective on 125th Street looking east and shows the actual station part that used to straddle Harlem's main shopping thoroughfare. By the early 1940's, the tracks would be dismantled and the underground subway would become the dominant mode of transportation for the city. Photo via NYPL

  1. By the way people are dressed it looks like summertime with double breated suits the style. A few months after this photograph, England will declare war on Germany and World War II begins in Europe, this was a significant year in world history. Great photo.
