☞ REMEMBER: Digital New York City at MCNY

One of the most exciting collection of archival New York photos like the ones of the long gone Jefferson Park Pavilon back in 1902 are at the Museum of the City New York and the Collections department has has been going digital. The Museum is currently in the midst of a long term project, begun in 2008, to digitize its holdings, starting with the vast collections of photographs, prints, and other works on paper depicting the changing city over time. They have already uploaded more than 62,000 historic photographs documenting New York, its built environment, streets, and people, to the MCNY online Collections Portal, including iconic images by Berenice Abbott, the Byron Company, Samuel H. Gottscho, Jacob Riis, the Wurts Brothers, and many others. There’s more to come in the near future, including more than 10,000 prints, maps, and drawings dating from as early as the 17th century.  Click here to explore the online Collections Portal: LINK

There is also a blog started by the archival team on the most recent additions for those interestedhttp://mcnyblog.org/

  1. Wonderful resource and well designed search, I hope there are more photos to come. One notable thing in these old photos, there is no garbage on the streets.
